| Description | Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), also known as interstitial collagenase, is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase that functions in extracellular matrix remodeling. This enzyme specifically cleaves fibrillar collagens, particularly types I, II, and III. It is necessary for tissue development, wound healing, and various pathological processes. Fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and other cell types produce MMP-1 in response to inflammatory stimuli and growth factors. Dysregulated MMP-1 activity has been linked to numerous diseases including arthritis, cancer metastasis, and cardiovascular disorders, making it an important biomarker for research applications. This quantitative sandwich ELISA kit detects rat matrix metalloproteinase-1 in serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates. The assay offers a detection range of 0.235 ng/ml to 15 ng/ml with a sensitivity of 0.058 ng/ml. The protocol requires 50-100 μl sample volume and can be completed within 1-5 hours. Detection occurs at 450 nm wavelength, providing researchers with a reliable tool for measuring MMP-1 levels in Rattus norvegicus samples. Application Examples Note: The following application examples are drawn from a selection of publications citing this product. For additional applications, please refer to the full list of references in the "Citations" section. This ELISA kit has been used in research examining matrix degradation processes and inflammatory responses in experimental animal models. The kit allows quantification of matrix metalloproteinase-1 in serum samples from rats subjected to monoiodoacetate-induced joint pathology models. • Matrix degradation research: Analysis of collagenase activity in experimental arthritis models to understand cartilage and extracellular matrix breakdown processes • Inflammatory biomarker profiling: Measurement of matrix metalloproteinase levels alongside pro-inflammatory cytokines and pain-related factors in serum samples • Joint pathology studies: Examination of matrix remodeling enzymes in monoiodoacetate-induced osteoarthritis models to evaluate disease progression and tissue degradation • Multi-analyte biomarker panels: Integration with cytokine and growth factor measurements to provide comprehensive analysis of inflammatory and tissue remodeling responses |
