Introduction
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a polycyclic compound containing 3-valent cobalt. Four reduced pyrrole rings are linked together to form a gollum macroring (similar to porphyrin), and it is the only vitamin that contains metallic elements. Vitamin B12 is a red crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless, slightly soluble in water and ethanol, under the condition of pH 4.5 ~ 5.0 weak acid, the most stable, strong acid (pH< 2) or alkaline solution decomposition, heat can have a certain degree of destruction. Higher plants and animals cannot make vitamin B12, and the vitamin B12 in nature is synthesized by microorganisms. Vitamin B12 is the only vitamin that needs the help of an intestinal secretion (endogenous factor) to be absorbed. It is involved in making red blood cells in the bone marrow, preventing pernicious anemia, and preventing nerve damage in the brain.
Glutamyl and methylglutamine are two coenzyme forms of B12. The cobalt ion is attached to the N-3 of 5, 6-2 methylphenyl imidazole above the plane of the cobalt ring and to the C5 'of 5' -deoxyadenosine below the plane. Commonly used B12, and cobalt ion is linked to CN, called cyanogen cobalt ammonia, green crystallization.
