Background Information

DescriptionAlpha-1-adrenergic receptors (alpha-1-ARs) are members of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. They activate mitogenic responses and regulate growth and proliferation of many cells. Alpha-1-adrenergic receptors mediate actions in the sympathetic nervous system through the binding of the catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine. The α1D-adrenergic receptor (ADRA1D, also known as DAR, ADRA1 and ADRA1A) is a key regulator of cardiovascular, prostate, and central nervous system functions. ADRA1D gene encodes alpha-1D-adrenergic receptor. Similar to alpha-1B-adrenergic receptor gene, it comprises 2 exons and a single intron that interrupts the coding region.
