Background Information

DescriptionFER1L6 (Fer-1 Like Family Member 6) is located on human chromosome 8q24.13. The FER1L6 protein is biasedly expressed in stomach, colon and other tissues. Structurally, the encoded FER1L6 protein is reported to be 209308 Da in mass. The FER1L6 (also known as C8ORFK23) gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, fruit fly, and frog. 218 organisms have orthologs with human gene FER1L6. FER1L6 is associated with some diseases, including Cerebellar Ataxia Type 43 and Miyoshi Muscular Dystrophy. FER1L6 is related to ATPase activity, coupled to transmembrane movement of substances. An important paralog of this gene is OTOF.
