Background Information
| Description | Ataxin 3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ATXN3 gene. ATXN3 functions in protein quality control pathways, where it may assist with proteasomal targeting of various substrates, most likely by editing Ub chains on them. ATXN3 may actually regulate the Ub status of many proteins. ATXN3 protects fly eyes from polyGln-mediated degeneration. ATXN3 requires a functional catalytic triad and functional UIMs for this neuroprotective effect. |
