Background Information

DescriptionMulti-PDZ (PSD-95/Discs large/Zonula-occludens-1) domain proteins play a crucial role in the establishment and maintenance of cell polarization. The multi-PDZ domain protein FRMPD2 is a scaffolding protein consisting of an N-terminal KIND domain, a FERM domain and three PDZ domains. The scaffold proteins Frmpd2 is localized at the basolateral membranes of polarized epithelial cells and associated with tight junction formation. Frmpd2 is specifically expressed at postsynaptic membrane. Frmpd2 is probably involved in synaptic NMDA receptors-mediated neural excitatory and neurotoxicity in a PDZ2 domain-dependent manner.
