The T4 gene 32 protein, encoded by the T4 phage, is a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) binding protein crucial for the replication and repair of T4 phage DNA. It binds and stabilizes ssDNA regions that form transiently, playing a key structural role during T4 phage DNA replication. This protein is extensively utilized for stabilizing and labeling ssDNA to study intracellular DNA structures under an electron microscope. Recent findings suggest that the T4 gene 32 protein can enhance the efficiency of restriction enzyme digestion, reverse transcription in RT-PCR, the activity of T4 DNA polymerase, and the yield of PCR reactions.
