Overview
Cod Uracil-DNA Glycosylase is expressed in a recombinant Escherichia coli strain harboring the UNG gene from Atlantic cod, and is purified through multiple chromatographic steps to high homogeneity. UNG (Uracil-DNA Glycosylase) catalyzes the hydrolysis of the N-glycosidic bond between uracil bases and the sugar-phosphate backbone in single‑ or double‑stranded DNA containing dU, releasing free uracil. The resulting abasic sites are readily cleaved by hydrolysis.
This enzyme is heat‑labile and irreversibly inactivated above 50 °C, making it suitable for PCR, qPCR, RT‑PCR and RT‑qPCR systems.
